If by ‘high trim pedestrian’ you mean that it had 4-wheel disc brakes, upgraded suspension and sway bars, a larger clutch, a better exhaust, and a DOHC engine making 40hp over the base model, then yes, you are correct.

Those are just things they could and should have put in the base model. Base model competitors of the escort all had those things.

I don’t believe these were particularly neutered. Sun International was one of the companies that Federalized a few for import back when they were fairly new.

Haha, I was just making a joke about the looks without the ridiculous (good ridiculous) wing. Sun’s cars were mostly Swiss-spec, hence the low wing.
